Matthew 6:22-23.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Nowadays there is so much to see everywhere. Too much bad on television, too much bad on the phones and pretty much most street corners are full of vile. Our eyes are incredibly complex and they work hard from the minute we wake up to the minute we go to sleep. For as long as the eye is open, it’s constantly taking in vast amounts of information about the world around us.
Now today’s scripture serves as a stark warning about the importance of sifting the things we see. It’s either we are full of light and blessed or we are full of darkness and doomed based purely on the things we choose to see.
Learn to discipline your eyes and keep them stayed on all things godly. I met a man once who when he was a child saw some pornographic images a fellow student had brought to school. He said from that moment those images were seared in his soul and led him into a pornography addiction that lasted well into his married life. It took serious years of devotion and growth in God’s word for him to fi nally kick the habit. Be careful what you see. Keep your eye on all things Godly. Remember you’re the God kind – this is who you are.
